New this year! Take 5!

Pharmacy peers will Take 5 minutes to tell you about something they do in their pharmacy that is working well for them. Then you’ll have 10 minutes to interact, ask questions and offer suggestions. When time runs out, it’s on to the next one. Of course, there’s plenty of time at the NCPA MLC meeting for further one-on-one dialogue to follow up and learn more from each other. New pharmacy service, marketing, operations, staff engagement – you’ll love this fast-moving hour of expense reducers and revenue generators.

Presenters: Hashim Zaibak, RPh, Hayat Pharmacy, Milwaukee, Wisc.
Pame McHugh, RPh, Pine Ridge Pharmacy, West Columbia, S.C.
Chad Alvarez, PharmD, Carilion Clinic, Roanoke, Va.
David Cippel, RPh, Klingensmith’s Drug Store, Ford City, Pa.

Project BrightSpot: How NCPA is Looking to Help You Leverage Your Competitive Advantage(s)

What does Amazon’s acquisition of PillPack mean for your pharmacies? Threat or opportunity? Join us as we discuss findings of an NCPA research project aimed at leveraging community pharmacies’ same-day, in-person home delivery and adherence packaging services – longtime core competencies for many pharmacies – to attract new patients in an Amazon-PillPack world.

Presenters: Sean Doyle, Principal–Strategic Planning & Management Consultant, Fitzmartin, Homewood, Alabama; NCPA CEO B. Douglas Hoey, Alexandria, Va.; Senior VP Communications & External Affairs, Scott Brunner, CAE, Alexandria, Va.

Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the impact of the Amazon/PillPack merger on pharmacies and lessons learned from other industries.
  2. Identify opportunities for community pharmacies to compete, leveraging community pharmacies’ existing competency/value in adherence packaging and same-day, in-person delivery.

Self-Insured Health Plans: Opportunities to Both Save and Make You Money

Self-insured health plans can be both a cost-savings strategy for your business and an opportunity to generate more revenue by selling your pharmacy services to other groups. Health care brokers Mark Haegele and Matt Lund will outline the various funding mechanisms for the multi-store owner looking to cut costs while maintaining employee coverage as well as the impact of reference-based pricing on service opportunities for your pharmacy. Hear from pharmacy owner Brian Beach, who saved more than 60% on monthly premiums, and community pharmacy leader and executive John Crumly on how they have applied these principles for their businesses.

Presenters: Brian Beach, PharmD, Principal and Chief Financial Officer, Kelley-Ross Pharmacy Group, Seattle, Wash.; John Crumly, DPh, MHA, CEO, PPOk, President, MaxCareRx, Edmond, Okla; Mark Haegele, Vice President, Lockton Companies, St. Louis, Mo.; Matt Lund, Senior Vice President, Brown & Brown Pacific, Inc., Seattle, Wash.

Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop questions to ask your current broker about your health coverage.
  2. Assess whether a self-funded health plan is right for your business.
  3. Illustrate opportunities to sell pharmacy services to other self-insured plans.
